3 Bathroom Cleaning Tricks You Need to Try
I am a compensated 3M-sponsored blogger, and as part of my responsibilities, I get the opportunity to evaluate 3M products. Opinions are my own and additional products used in the project were selected by me.
A clean bathroom is a happy bathroom. With these 3 tips you’ll be able to keep your bathroom clean a little longer and enjoy a naturally disinfected space.
Keep these supplies on hand:
- Scotch-Brite® Scrub Dots Heavy Duty Sponges
- Scotch-Brite® Scrub Dots Dish Wand
- all-purpose disinfecting cleaner
- white vinegar
- baking soda
First things first, you need a good disinfectant. Here’s my favorite recipe for a safe, non-toxic disinfecting spray, perfect for bathrooms.
ALL-PURPOSE CLEANING + DISINFECTING SPRAY
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- 1/4 cup vodka or rubbing alcohol (excellent germ-killing properties)
- 15 drops of your favorite essential oils (lavender + lemon and peppermint + lemon are my favorite combos)
- 1 1/4 cups water
Combine all ingredients and put in to a glass spray bottle.
CLEANING WATER SPOTS + MINERAL DEPOSITS
Once you have mixed up your disinfecting spray, you’re ready to take on your bathroom. Spray surfaces and let sit 10 minutes before wiping clean. If you have any water and mineral deposits, simply sprinkle a little baking soda over the spray and wipe with a sponge to remove the spots and build-up.
Rinse the sponge and repeat until the baking soda and spray mixture is wiped clean. The great thing about this sponge is that it rinses cleanly, so you don’t have to worry about leftover baking soda getting stuck in the sponge. Dry and polish fixtures with a clean, soft cloth.
If you’re having a hard time with water spots in your shower stall – glass or fiberglass – you’ll love this trick for keeping the walls from getting that soap scum buildup.
Simply pour white vinegar into the dispenser of a dish wand and keep it in your shower. Keep the sponge side pointing up so the vinegar doesn’t drip.
Try one or all of these bathroom cleaning hacks this week and you’ll find you’re able to get your bathroom a little cleaner in a little less time. Happy Cleaning!

Hello!
I noticed that the home made cleaning recipes all call for a glass spray bottle. Is there any particular reason for glass? Thank you 🙂

Post authorIf you use essential oils the oil can break down plastic. I love the feel of the glass and find it to be a better vehicle for cleaning products 🙂

I love your sprays and made most of them for cleaning around the house. Can I use the Daily Shower Spray on stone surfaces? We have Travertine stone in our shower and bathroom floor and our bathroom counters are granite. I know you cannot use any vinegar on these surfaces. What is the best cleaning solution to use? Does the granite spray work ok for these areas as well?

These are good tips. I wonder, though, when you mention using white vinegar whether cleaning vinegar would be better because it’s percentage of something (the name of which I can’t remember) is about 10% more than regular vinegar and this ingredient in a higher percentage gives vinegar a step up on cleaning.

Post authorIt would be your personal preference – regular distilled vinegar is easier to find – the acid ratio is just slightly higher in cleaning vinegar.

I have granite countertops in my kitchen–do you have a good recipe for a disinfecting cleaner for that? I worry the vinegar will damage it.

How long does this granite cleaner last? Just wondering if the alcohol evaporates from the water and castille soap making it no longer be antibacterial/disenfecting?
