The following is an excerpt from Chapter 3 in Simply Clean:

(WEDNESDAY) DAY 4: VACUUMING

Once you’ve thoroughly dusted your home, it’s time to pick up any dust that settled on the floor and get all those corners and edges that you’ve been neglecting. Today we’re going to vacuum the home completely. Before starting, do a quick declutter to make sure you have picked up anything on the floor that you don’t want vacuumed up. Once you’ve done that, it’s time to start vacuuming. If you think you’re off the hook because you have hard-surface floors in your home, you’re not—everything gets a thorough vacuuming today!

Start on the upper level of your home and at the room farthest away from the entry to that level. If your vacuum cleaner has attachments, put them to use and do a quick vacuuming of your baseboards and edges before you get started with floor or rug vacuuming. Start in the farthest corner of the room and vacuum your way out of the room from left to right. Once you’ve vacuumed in one direction, vacuum in the opposite direction. This might seem counterproductive or like too much work, but it’s a great way to get embedded dirt, pet hair, dust, dander, and anything else that you want out of your carpet. This method will keep those vacuum lines evident and also let you see what you’ve already vacuumed. Embrace cleaning with a method—not only will it make you more efficient, it will keep you on task and focused. Do a thorough vacuuming in each room, taking care to vacuum edges and corners and under furniture as you are able. You’ll find that doing a really good job as you get started will make vacuuming weekly much easier.

Here’s how the challenge is going to work – every day for 7 days (March 12-18) you’ll have an assigned task to complete – you’ll see that the tasks semi-mirror my cleaning routine. Once you’ve completed the 7 tasks, you’ll be ready to continue with the Simply Clean Method as you move forward. I’ll be sharing the daily tasks on social media and back on this blog post.
