Vacuuming and washing floors can seem never ending and in reality, they pretty much are. Crumbs, food, sticky residue, dirt, shoe and paw prints….floors definitely take a beating. I’m always looking for better, faster, and more efficient ways to clean, so when Bissell asked me to review their new CrossWave™ All-in-One Multi-Surface Cleaner I jumped at the opportunity to try out this new and innovative floor cleaning product.
As someone that vacuums hard surface floors on one day and washes them the next, this is a game changer. Yes, vacuuming and washing floors can be done in one step – hooray! Here’s the Bissell CrossWave™ All-in-One Multi-Surface Cleaner in action.
These features are what makes the Bissell CrossWave™ stand apart from other 2-in-1 and traditional products:
- Two-Tank System – Keeps cleaning solution and dirty water separate to make sure you are always cleaning with fresh water and formula.
- Dual Action Brush Roll – Innovative microfiber and nylon brush scrubs and picks up dry debris at the same time.
- SmartClean Fingertip Controls – Fingertip controls allow you to easily switch between hard floor and area rug cleaning.
Simply fill the reservoir up to the lines – I just use the large area and wash all the floors at once. Bissell recommends only using their floor cleaning concentrates in this machine. They have three to choose from: area rug, wood floor, and multi-surface. I’ve been using the multi-surface.
I love how the cleaning brush works – it’s cleans the floor but never leaves it with residual water.
I’ve been using the CrossWave™ on our hardwood floors in our powder room, kitchen and entryway as well as on the tile in the bathrooms, mudroom, and laundry room. It does not disappoint!
I love the way it vacuums and washes in one step – perfect for tile too!
Check this out this is after one floor cleaning session – YUCK!
Once you’re done with washing the floors you need to wash out the reservoir, filter, and brush. This takes a couple minutes and you need to let everything dry thoroughly before returning to the machine.
I love how the CrossWave™ quickly vacuums and washes our floors in one step. There’s no residue and the floors are clean in a hurry! If you have area rugs, you’ll love this floor cleaner because not only can you wash your floors you can use this to deep clean your area rugs. If you’re looking for a new solution for your floors, I recommend that you give this a try!

Bissell provided the Crosswave for me to test out and review – rest assured, I only review products that I love and have tested in my own home. You can read my full disclosure policy here.

We have a large house with three dogs, a cat, and a child so this could be a beautiful thing! Do you know how it is with picking up pet hair – some machine designs are much better with fur than others?
Theresa Says...
I’ve only been using it for about 20 minutes but it does pick up pet hair without a problem. We have a Great Pyrenees and there is a lot of long soft white fur all over the floor every morning. It picked up the fur and cleaned the floor wonderfully. So far, I’m very happy.

…on hardwood floors. I forgot to mention that and it matters. The entire house, with the exception of the bathrooms, is hardwood.
Thanks!

How was it with dried on food? We have two littles and sometimes I don’t get to cleaning the floors before it is dried on. Currently we use a shark steam mop or the braava jet. While both are grand in their own ways dried on spots definitely take more effort. Also is it possible to buy extra parts so the machine can be used more frequently?

Post authorThe rotating bar removes dried on food easily – you can buy extra parts 🙂

We have ceramic tile with 1/4 to 1/2-inch grout seams. Does it push the dirt into the grout when washing the tile? The present unit I have does that, so, over time, the grout becomes dirty.
Thank you.

Post authorThe brush and bristles clean the grout 🙂

So the cleaner: does it have a chemical like smell? As a natural cleaner advocate, what do you think about it? I like the idea but in practice I would rather use one of my (read your, lol) homemade recipes since they don’t tweak my allergies.
If you can’t reply directly (I totally get it) feel free to email me.

Post authorHi Sharon! The cleaner scent is mild and safe for kids and pets. You can also use warm water in the machine as well 🙂

Do you have any recipes for alternative soaps? I’m not a fan of the scent of the Bissell solution.

Post authorWater and 2 drops of Sal Suds soap would be my recommendation 🙂

Do you know if the washer deposits dirt on the tile grout? The cleaner I presently have pushes dirt there, and, because the grout is lower than the tlle, it stays there.
Thank you.

Post authorI haven’t experienced that at all!

Hi,
Same question as Debbi. How does it work on pet hair? And hardwood floors? Thanks in advance!
Becky Says...
Post authorYes! It works beautifully on both!

What kind of capacity does the vacuum part have? I have two boys who seem to get more on the floor than in their tummies. I mean daily it looks like I haven’t sweeped in a month! I have a mix of laminate and tile throughout my 1500 sqft home. Would I have to empty the vacuum a lot?

Post authorYou clean that part out after each use 🙂

This cleans my area rug amazingly! I couldn’t figure out where the dog had peed and was going to toss the rug. I came across this machine at my local Sams Club and it literally saved my rug. And it pulled black wages out of carpet, tile and hardwood. This is amazing!!

Can I use a water & vinegar solution instead of Bissell solution for cleaning?
b r Says...
Post authorYou can but you’ll void your warranty 🙂

I’ve had mine for a week and a half. I love it. I was quite embarrassed to see the water that came out with the first use! It’s gotten better. I have 2dogs, shedding and muddy feet! It picks up the hair, mud and washes, so much time saved. Love this machine!!

Can i use other cleaning solutions in the crosswave?
b r Says...
Post authorBissell only recommends their solution – I will add a drop or two of a cleaning concentrate 🙂

I have a large house, about 6,000 SF. Most of the floors are hardwood. Do I vacuum on Wednesday and wet mop on Thursday or is that redundant?
After this quarantine is over, my maid is getting a raise!!!!
Thank you

I have rheumatoid arthritis in my hands. Is it a heavy machine? Is it fairly easy to move around? I’m always looking for a way to combine chores to make cleaning more efficient.

I just threw my Bissell Cross Wave out this morning. After using it twice and not being thrilled with it. It was nice that it picked up dust, dog fur, and crumbs, but it left streaks all over my floor. I have a laminate floor. Beside the streaking, the rubber wheels in the back of the machine stayed wet and caused more marks on my floor. I had to go over the entire floor with a damp mop to clean up all the streaks. Very disappointed with the Bissell Cross Wave.

I wanted to revisit this and how it works into the scheduling. I’m blessed with tree vacuums – a canister that’s a real work horse which is used for the super heavy deep cleaning. My mom gave me her Orick – that’s what I use on the four rooms that are carpeted. The remaining part of the small house (1400 sq feet) is luxury vinyl plank. My third vac is a cordless Dyson – great for both detailed cleaning like small spaces such as under stove and fridge but it isn’t good for the long haul. So it’s a fine tuning tool and the canister is the brute force tool. After the luxury plank was installed I got a cross wave. It’s not perfect for bathrooms since it can’t go behind the toilet but it’s great everywhere else for a real deep cleaning with no mops and buckets. So Wednesday is my vacuum the three bedrooms and living room and Thursday is mopping the hard surface areas, which is the rest of the house – or about 950 sq ft. I stopped using the crosswave on the throw rugs and runners because it gets really disgusting LOL. I vac them which I do the other part. For this job I use the Orick. Quick and easy. We have no pets and no children but my husband makes up for both with his constant peanut eating habit. I just spot vac around his recliner, most days. No kitchen crumbs to clean up. I’m really pleased with the crosswave.
