DAY 4 – Declutter Jumpstart – Sort Paper Piles
September 12, 2017
Welcome to DAY 4 of the Clutter Challenge! The Clutter Challenge is a 7 day challenge – I hope you find it doable and helpful as a springboard for getting rid of clutter! This challenge is straight from THE CLUTTER HANDBOOK – you can totally do the challenge without the handbook BUT I’m pretty sure you’ll want it 🙂 As a special bonus, anyone that orders and has ordered THE CLUTTER HANDBOOK will get a special discount and early notification on the Clean Mama DAILY Planner coming later this month!
This week (September 9-15) I’ll be sharing 7 tasks designed to give you a decluttering jumpstart. Start with these 7 declutter tasks – they’re designed to get you started quickly and with easily, in a realistic and doable way.
Sort paper piles – If you have more than one, start with the worst offender and go from there. When sorting paper piles you will have 3 categories: toss/recycle, file, and shred. All you need to do today is to sort your paper piles. Toss/recycle what you can and LEAVE the file and shred piles for the the next two days. If you purchase or purchased THE CLUTTER HANDBOOK, print out the three category labels in Part 6 to help guide you through the paper declutter process. I hate paper clutter – this photo is from last week’s pile of papers from ONE WEEK at school for my three kiddos. I have to have a system in place! You’ll find a whole chapter just on paper clutter in the handbook – perfect if you’re looking for a way to get rid of the paper clutter in your home too.
Coming in a little late? No worries! Start when and where you can and follow along! Check out the links below for where you can find the daily prompts and follow what works for you:

Here’s a little more information on THE CLUTTER HANDBOOK:
Do you ever feel like you can’t relax because there’s clutter everywhere you look and you don’t know where to start or feel like it’s pointless to start? Or that unsettled feeling of not making any progress despite your best intentions? You clean up the clutter only to find it returned and multiplied. There’s a pile of last week’s mail on the counter, the kids have toys, shoes, and backpacks strewn from one corner of the house to the next and people need to eat tonight.
Is it too much to ask to have a calm home to walk into to? Is it even possible with everything else you have going on? Maybe you’re just destined to live a life of clutter forever.
If you’ve ever felt like this, you aren’t alone. Any time I survey readers about what they struggle with the most, it’s clutter. Instead of moving the piles around, I want you to be able to get rid of the clutter for good, enjoy a life with less stuff, and have systems in place to help you continue to succeed. If clutter makes you crabby but you don’t necessarily know how to get rid of it for good or everything you’ve tried before hasn’t worked, I have something to share with you.
It’s THE CLUTTER HANDBOOK…..
THE CLUTTER HANDBOOK is a 50 page pdf guide and resource webpage designed to take the guesswork out of decluttering your home. It doesn’t matter if you’re starting from a room you can’t walk into or if you just have a couple of annoying clutter piles, this guide is designed to take you from clutter to decluttered in simple, manageable steps. Here’s how THE CLUTTER HANDBOOK is structured to help you find success in decluttering you home:
- Learn to declutter ruthlessly and in a way that makes sense for your schedule, home, and current clutter situation.
- Set up systems to effectively deal with your existing clutter.
- Learn how to navigate incoming clutter.
- Deal with clutter daily so it never piles up again.
THE CLUTTER HANDBOOK is a step-by-step manual for decluttering your home. I’ve simplified my own personal decluttering method into an approachable system perfect for busy households and people with a time budget. Let’s face it – if you don’t have time, that might be why your home is cluttered in the first place. You might have piles and stacks of stuff that’s been waiting for you to sort through for years or maybe it’s just piled up in the last weeks or months during a particularly busy season of life. Whatever your current state of clutter is, you’re going to get to the bottom of it and get rid of it for good.

While I enjoy your tips on cleaning and de-cluttering one’s life, your blog posts seem extremely heavy on selling your books, cleaning supplies, forms, etc. etc. In your Declutter Jumpstart week,, you have exactly ONE paragraph to help toward decluttering. the rest of your blog is about selling your products, Clutter Handbook – one more thing to clutter up my home. :/
I appreciate this is how you make your living, but after 7 days of telling me I have to have the Clutter Handbook to help my life, I’m done.

Post authorThanks for your feedback! When I write a blog post that’s in a series, I add a fair amount of repeated information because someone might be coming to it on Day 4 or Day 3 or Day 7 and have no idea why I was suggesting that someone sorts paper piles on day 4 of some random challenge. I add that information to be thorough and to point people toward resources that I have created to simplify their lives. I write here on Clean Mama because I LOVE helping people figure out how to clean, get rid of clutter, and organize their lives while still enjoying the things that really matter. I sell products yes, but I also have oodles of free resources and content that is provided at no charge. I’m sorry that you see this is ‘one more thing to clutter up your home’ but I see it as a FREE challenge that also offers a DIGITAL product designed to help readers deal with their clutter in a simple way. As for the content being ONE paragraph, it’s a challenge designed to get you started, not to overwhelm you. I hope that helps clarify my mission.
