DIY Homemade Cleaners: Glass + Mirror Cleaner
Making your own cleaners can be fun and economical. This series is all about must-have ingredients, recipes {free printable}, labels {free printable}, and how to make homemade cleaners.
Glass + Mirror Cleaner
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup white vinegar
- 3 drops essential oils – mint or lemon is great for this
Mix, spray, wipe clean! This is a great window and mirror cleaner – it works especially well with a microfiber cloth made specifically for mirrors and windows.

Thanks for this great post! I have been wondering what i can use. Now I use store-bought glass cleaner and microfiber cloth.
I have a question about the essitial oil – how long does the smell stay? Or is it just to hide the vinegar smell?? 🙂
Crista Says
This solution and a microfiber cloth is what we currently use and it works great. The smell of the oil does not linger, but it smells much better than the vinegar.

Post authorHi Trine!
I only use the essential oil to mask the vinegar smell while I’m cleaning – it lingers a little, but not long.

I’ve seen this pairing recommended at different strengths and haven’t tried it yet. How did you decide 1:1 vinegar to water?

It’s what worked best to get the dirt off my windows – especially outside!

I have heard if you wipe shaving cream on your bathroom mirror it stops it from fogging up. But have never tried it. Guess it wouldn’t hurt to try!!

It doesn’t work too well to use shaving cream,it only last for about one short shower, maybe a little more, then it stops working. We tried it at my house, and it ended up being a waste of shaving cream

Hi,
I use a microfibre cloth on my windscreen. It seems to work pretty well. No other chemicals.

Where do you buy the essential oils?
Becky Says
Post authorYou can get them from a health food store or a store like Whole Foods, Amazon (see the shop on my sidebar)…I also like doTERRA brand and Beeyoutiful brand as well.
