DIY Lemon + Lavender Fabric Freshener Spray
If you need to freshen a pillow, a throw blanket, or a stinky pair of shoes, this fabric freshener spray will quickly replace that fabric spray you’ve been using and become a new favorite. The chemicals and artificial fragrance in traditional fabric sprays are toxic and when you see how easy and inexpensive this spray is to mix up, you’ll be DIY’ing your fabric spray too.
Here are the ingredients you’ll need:
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup vodka (or rubbing alcohol)
- 5 drops lemon essential oil
- 5 drops lavender essential oil
- spray bottle
- spray label
Add ingredients to a spray bottle and shake to combine. Also pictured in this post are my Flour Sack Towels and Cleaning Bucket.
Spray on fabric to freshen – let dry completely before using. If you are concerned about water on fabric, test in an inconspicuous area first.

Do you use this spray in place of Febreeze fabric spray? I currently spray Febreeze on my teenager’s workout clothes before laundering and would like to use a more environmentally friendly product with the same successful results.

I made this refreshing, lightly scented spray tonight for my husbands car interior. After it had been vacuumed and cleaned, it still wasn’t smelling very fresh, so I pitched all of his artificial air fresheners and spritzed this on the floor, seats, and ceiling. A few hours later, the car smells much nicer! Thank you!

Just out of curiosity, why add the vodka or rubbing alcohol to the fabric freshener
