If you’ve used a soft scrub that left you with a headache, you’re going to love this natural and inexpensive soft scrubbing paste that you can mix up with ingredients you already have on hand. This gentle, yet effective soft scrub paste is perfect for tackling those stubborn stains, dirt, grime, and even soap scum around your home. The DIY Soft Scrub uses just three staple ingredients – baking soda, castile or dish soap, and water – this scrub not only offers powerful cleaning action but also keeps your home free from harsh chemicals.
Whether you’re cleaning your bathroom tiles, kitchen sink, or stovetop, this eco-friendly concoction is sure to be a beloved addition to your cleaning arsenal. Let’s get mixing!
DIY Soft Scrub
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 tablespoon dish soap or castile soap
- slowly add about 2 tablespoons of water until the mixture is the consistency of frosting
- OPTIONAL: add up to 1/4 cup of Oxygen Whitener to the mixture if you want to bump up the cleaning or whitening power – this is great for white porcelain sinks or bathtubs! You might need to add a bit more water to get it to that frosting-like consistency
Directions:
Mix the baking soda, Oxygen Whitener (if using) and soap together. It’ll be clumpy – slowly add the water and stir as you drizzle it in. Once it gets to the right consistency, stop adding water. Give it a good mix and get ready to scrub.
Wet the surface and add a spoonful of the paste to the surface that needs attention. Using a sponge or a scrub brush, scrub, scrub, scrub. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.
A little goes a long way – if you are left with a haze on your surface, you didn’t rinse it completely. Rinse again and dry. This concoction is best as a one-time use cleaner – if you have any left over, find another spot to scrub 🙂 If you’re curious, this is similar to my Nightly Sink Scrub but it’s a one-off recipe (not stored) and it has a higher soap to baking soda ratio.
Let me know if you try this DIY Soft Scrub – you can find all sorts of DIY cleaning recipes here on the blog! They can be mixed up for pennies and work so well!
