Essentials for Sheets + Towels
We made it to Saturday – and today is Sheets + Towels Day! We wash sheets and towels on Saturday because everyone can get involved and we want our kids to know how to change their sheets and it always takes less time when everyone gets involved.
Why does this work? Consistent sheet and towel laundering is what makes this work. I wash sheets and towels on Saturdays and find that all week long the beds are easy to make and it gets even quicker to change the sheets. So simple and easy. I don’t change the duvet cover every week but I do change it bi-weekly or every third week as needed.
Want to simplify your laundry routine? Buy all white sheets and towels. This makes laundry super easy and everything looks fresh and clean! Here’s my method for sheets and towels on Saturdays:
- master bedroom sheets – we only use fitted sheets in our house, pillow covers and duvet cover (I wash this every 2-3 weeks) go in the wash first.
- kids’ sheets – we don’t always wash everyone’s sheets weekly – rotate through so you do one or two a week or do all of your beds, it’s up to you!
- bath towels – Master bathroom, kids bathrooms
- kitchen towels
- cleaning cloths
- clean/sanitize washer – I have a button on the washing machine for this
I USE THESE PRODUCTS ON ALL OF MY LAUNDRY – all natural, safe, and everything smells so fresh and clean: Clean Mama Laundry Super Powder, Clean Mama Oxygen Whitener, white vinegar for softener – in the softener dispenser, and Clean Mama Wool Dryer Balls in the dryer. Find them here!
A trick for getting that duvet cover on quickly + easily (like 2-3 minutes easy):
- Turn the duvet cover inside out.
- Place it on top of the comforter.
- Tie any ties in place (if you have them).
- Grab the top left corner and pull it over the comforter and repeat with the left side.
- Pull the cover over the comforter and shake it out a bit and arrange it on the bed.
Something to think about:
Through my extensive research for Clean Mama’s Guide to a Healthy Home (grab it here) I’ve come to the conclusion that laundry products can be the most dangerous products in our homes. Why? We wear clothes, pajamas, and sleep in bedding that is laundered in detergent and fabric softener. We don’t get away from the chemicals that are in laundry products. Most conventional fabric softeners and dryer sheets contain artificial fragrances and ingredients that are known to cause and/or exacerbate existing respiratory and asthmatic irritations and problems. These ingredients are toxic and harmful to anyone, not just people with existing problems. Don’t just assume that something is safe because the company says it is or because the product says ’natural’. This post goes into detail about why I only use white vinegar and wool dryer balls as my ‘fabric softener’. Want to see my favorite laundry products? Go here.

Followed the weekly classes and just had someone stop over, for the first time ever, didn’t have to rush around! Thank you! The house is clean and I don’t remember really working that hard on it. Well, dishes I remember, but everything else kinda flowed nicely, thank you for all the knowledge!!

I have been so motivated this week with the emails and IG support. I do iron so I added that to Friday and also cleaned the grout in the master bath! It’s just something about seeing a clean bathroom and the floor looks grungy. I even got a nice compliment from my sweet Southern Gentleman husband. Thanks a bunch!

I have been following this routine for nearly 2 years now. As a full time working parent with a super busy child with school and sports, this routine has saved my house and sanity. I get up a half hour to 45 mins earlier in the morning and get my daily tasks and a load of laundry done before work. I feel more accomplished and it sets the tone for a productive day. We usually are not home on the weekends, but I have manged to work in bedding and towels throughout the week. Without this I would be so stressed, and would have given up on keeping house. Thanks a bunch!

Hi there, you detail how to wash sheets and how to wash a duvet (and how often you launder your duvet cover), but I’ve yet to see your insight on how you launder a duvet cover. Would you mind sharing this with us, too? I don’t do this nearly enough because I feel a bit in the dark about how to keep this clean (and natural) for my family without accidentally ruining this item. Thanks!

If you wash your towels one a week. Do you use the same towel all week or do you use several but only wash them on Saturday?
Thanks

Post authorWe use them 1-2x, put them in a hamper/laundry basket when they’re dry and then launder on Saturdays.
