Sometimes a quick and simple tip that can make the mundane a little easier or make your life a little better makes a BIG difference. This is a new series here on the blog where I’ll be sharing simple tips, finds, and suggestions to make life a little easier. I’ll be sharing these tips regularly on the blog and on Instagram– make sure you’re following along! See all the Everyday Tips here.
This tip is one I love in our bathroom – it’s inexpensive but feels a little bit luxurious. I buy a couple packages of these wash cloths at Target (they’re under $3 for 8 washcloths). I find them on an end cap, usually by the college stuff. You could use a color or find them at another store – the distinguishing feature is that they don’t have any trim on them – they’re just sewn around the edges and they are very thin.
Then I put them in a small wire basket and keep it on the counter by the sink. Every night I use a cloth to take my makeup off and wash my face. Not only do they dry quickly but they wash up beautifully. No more makeup on your ‘good’ wash cloths. I wash them on hot right along with our other white bath towels with laundry soap, white vinegar, and oxygen whitener and dry as usual.
How do I keep the makeup from staining the white wash cloths?
I rinse them thoroughly after I use them and this takes care of most of the makeup. I also find that by washing them on hot and with oxygen whitener gets the rest out.
How do I deal with the wet face cloths?
I use one face cloth at night and I let it hang over our tub faucet until it’s dry and then I just toss it in the towel wash basket.
How long do they last?
I use them for a couple years – I’ve purchased three times and only repurchase when the cloths are dingy and need to be replaced. They make good rags if you want to recycle them for another use!

I use reusable make-up pads which are also made of cotton. Personally, I find the towel face cloths too irritating for my skin but each to his own, and it’s a fabulous idea Becky.

Hi. These aren’t available for shipping and my target doesn’t carry them. Can you recommend another brand of face towels?

I use the cheap, white, wash cloths from Walmart. They work great! Thank you for the tip!

Hi there, I have been doing this for a couple of years and now have my young teenager doing the same. They do dry quickly and do not smell musty! I have found these inexpensive washcloths at target (bath section) and at walmart (kitchen section). And if they do start to look too stained (haven’t yet), I will use them for rags. I use cheap bar cloths for rags as well, to cut down on paper towel use.
