If you’re struggling right now with decluttering or feeling like you just can’t get motivated to get started, today I’m sharing my simple 5 step method to quickly declutter any space. The goal here is a quick win and a decluttered space. This can be a drawer, a counter, an end table, a closet – choose an area that needs a little decluttering and get started. I used this method to declutter my side of the bedroom closet this weekend.
Here’s my before – clothes that need to be washed, Christmas returns that need to be dealt with, a declutter was definitely in order.
1 – SET A TIMER – This can be for 10 minutes or 2 hours, you choose! I ended up spending about 30 minutes working on this space. As usual, it took me less time than I was anticipating it to take.
2 – CLEAR OUT – Remove all the items from the clutter spot.
3 – QUICK SORT – Do a Quick Sort – put each item in one of these 4 clutter categories (Keep, Toss, Donate, Relocate). I ended up with a donate bag and a toss bag – love that feeling!
4 – WIPE + PLACE – Make sure the area is wiped clean and ‘Keep’ items back. I used the new All-Purpose Cloth in the Cleaning Kit for this.
I also vacuum a space if necessary – this took about 1 minute and is always worth the effort!
5 – TAKE A LOOK – Assess the area and determine if there’s anything you need to keep this space from cluttering up again. Put your Relocate items in their new spot and take care of your Toss and Donate items.
If you’re looking for help getting started and a group to work on some decluttering together, sign up for the 5 Day Home Refresh – I hope you join us! The 1000+ people that purchased and participated last August loved the method we used and the quick wins in their homes.
I love a good before and after don’t you?
How about you? Is there a space you can do a quick declutter in today? Set a timer and get started!

Wow, if THAT was cluttered, I’d hate to see trashed level.
Wanna come take care of packing my cluttered apartment? Hubby’s a packrat who keeps things JUST IN CASE… I HATE THAT PHRASE. It’s like how my sister is with the word “moist”.
But on a good note, you’ve given me ideas for a laundry room with a place to store clothes and change clothes so the bedroom closets can hold other stuff (like pajamas and occasion clothing and precious stuff).

I’m pretty sure that you said which vacuum(s) you like somewhere but I can’t recall where to find it. I’m especially interested in a stick vacuum that it looks like you are using in your decluttering your closet video. I have a Miele canister vacuum and love it but it would be nice to have something that could be pulled out for a quit clean in a small area.
