It’s the Little Things #196
It’s officially feeling more like winter as we have had our first snowfall that is actually sticking around. I really want to embrace this upcoming week with Thanksgiving but I must admit, I am looking forward to decorating for Christmas too. How about you?
Ready to see what caught my eye this week? Let’s start with the incredible side recipes from The Real Food Dieticians. I couldn’t possibly choose a favorite, they all look so good! If you have a budding seamstress in your home, or maybe you would love a project yourself, be sure to check out the 50+ simple sewing projects from Polka Dot Chair. I love Kylie M. Interiors’s paint colors suggestions and posts and pinned her kitchen cabinet post as inspiration. Lastly, I shared a little luxuries gift guide this week for your gift giving needs for friends, family and even yourself on my blog.
Don’t get me wrong, I love turkey as part of our Thanksgiving meal but I secretly love the sides even more. I could literally eat a meal of all sides from these delicious recipes from The Real Food Dietitians.
Our teenage daughter loves to sew and has become really talented at whipping up all sorts of creations. I know she is going to love tackling some of these easier projects from Polka Dot Chair. I might even try my own hand at some!
Are you considering painting your kitchen cabinets some day? I really appreciate all the science that Kylie puts into her color choices and suggestions. Her eye for colors is spot on and her suggestions for lighter cabinet colors are spot on.
I had so much fun putting together my little luxuries gift guide this week. I included all sorts of ideas at different price points that bring me and my family members joy.

Hi Kelly! Welcome and I’m so sorry to hear that but I do have a couple tips that might be helpful for you from this post:
There are times in your life when your cleaning routine is the last thing you’re concerned about. I’ve experienced a handful of instances where I couldn’t pull it together to keep up with my routine or I was told by a doctor not to lift or do any exerting (torn ankle tendon and three c-sections). I understand that feeling of hopelessness because you know what should be done but you just can’t do it. Each of those instances was 6-8 weeks and through them I learned how to manage the musts and let go of the rest. My mother-in-law also had an autoimmune disease that kept her from the simplest housework tasks and I feel for you if you are suffering from a disease or disability and are looking for some practical tips to fit a routine into your schedule. Here are just a couple suggestions (I could do a whole blog post):
Ask for help – family members, friends, hire help if you can.
Don’t do things that lay you up for the next day – pace yourself so you don’t regret the time spent cleaning.
Split tasks up – if you have 3 bathrooms and you want to clean them yourself, clean one one week on Monday, the next one the following week, and so on.
Use tools that are easy to use – choose tools that feel good in your hands and that you will want to use.
Go slow and keep things as simple as you can. Add more when you’re able to but don’t overdo it!
