Laundry Room Tour
I’m slowly making it through my home tour this year and today I’m sharing my laundry room with you. We just did a little redo of the teeny tiny space so I thought it would be a perfect time to share it with you. You can see our previous laundry room in this post (with some other laundry tips too) if you’re curious.
A couple things to note: the laundry room is on the 2nd floor between the kids’ bedrooms and it’s small – it’s a 5.5 foot square space. I absolutely love it! Sure, I’d love a larger laundry room with a folding counter and a sink or more room for a larger drying rack, but I’m totally happy with the space and love having a 2nd floor laundry room.
With such a small space, there are only a few things that actually fit making decorating it both easy and difficult. I have it pared down to the basic necessities:
- washer + dryer
- drying rack
- wall shelf
- ironing board
- laundry supplies
- ironing supplies
- containers to keep supplies tidy
When we re-did the laundry room a couple weeks ago, we had the old washer and dryer removed, I completely cleaned the room, had tile installed (the linoleum was removed), and then I painted the whole room white and repainted the trim.
We chose a plank style gray and white porcelain tile for the floors – we only needed 2 boxes – a plus side to an itty bitty laundry room!
I already had this shelf but it was a creamy/off-white color and when we hung it didn’t look right so I painted it a soft gray.
I had this drying rack and didn’t need to paint it because the white is a true white (it’s whiter than this image in real life) and matched the wall paint color nicely.
I don’t iron often, but I love having the ironing board on the back of the door – it keeps it off the floor and out of the way. The ironing board is from Target and the over the door ironing board holder is from The Container Store.
This project started when Samsung asked me if I’d like to try their new washer and dryer – of course I said yes! I’ll talk more about them in an upcoming post post but I love how the black stainless steel looks in the room.
I changed up some of the containers for laundry and ironing supplies – the ones at the top are from HomeGoods and the buckets on top of the washer are from The Container Store. I keep extra supplies and the iron in the baskets on the shelf and in the larger bucket I keep dirty microfiber cloths that are waiting to be washed and in the smaller bucket I keep laundry supplies that are in use. You can find my favorite laundry supplies under Saturday on this page.

Becky/ Clean Mama,
Your laundry room re-do looks terrific and I love the soothingly neutral color paint palette you’ve gone with. I for one, will be very interested to learn your overall impression of the new Samsung washing and dryer units.
We have a pair of Bosch units which were great when they were younger but they unfortunately did not fair as well as they should have when they were relocated to our new home.

Love it!! I was just looking at new washers and dryers, and will be interested in your opinion of these. (And boy what I wouldn’t give to have them offer for me to try out their appliances!)
What I LOVE about your house pictures is you have nothing laying around on the floor!

What does your ironing board holder look like without the board on it and who makes it?

I would like to know where to find the drying rack, I am hunting for a folding one for a while now.

Anita, I just bought the same one (or at least it looks the same) at ImprovementsCatalog.com.

Where do you keep your piles of clothes your going to wash or your basket to put your clean clothes from the dryer in?
Becky Says
Post authorHi Kelly!
All dirty clothes are in closets in hampers/baskets. Then when we’re doing laundry the baskets stay on the floor of the laundry room in between washing/drying. When the clothes are dry they go back into the closets.
Kelly Says
Ok, so do you clean all the clothes in all the baskets so when the baskets go back to their closets they are all empty or do you leave whatever didn’t get washed in the baskets? I’m just wondering because I have all my dirty clothes in my laundry room when the baskets get full they get “dumped” in the laundry room basket and I try to stay on top of it but there’s always some to do because of all the different kinds of loads I have. Like, there may not be enough whites to run a full white cycle yet, so mine stay in the dirty laundry basket in the laundry room until I have more for a full load. Any suggestions? I ask because my laundry room is small like yours. Thanks!
Karen Says
I have a similar set up. I put a very long shelf from one end to the other over the washer and dryer. It accommodates 3 laundry baskets labeled white, light, dark. We all sort directly into those baskets. I never have to retrieve dirty clothes from anyone’s room. When a basket is full, I run a load. Folding is done on the dryer.

My laundry room is the exact same layout as yours (size wise). Do you have anything on the right hand side? I have a wire shelf that is too high on the back wall and then two wire shelves on the right that I hate! I think I’m showing this to the hubby! I want to build a folding space above my washer dryer that can easily be remove so we can get behind to fix any issues but will give me more space and keep things from falling behind. One of my 7 yo’s chores is to climb the machine each month to see what has fallen back there!!

You have made a really lovely space Becky 🙂

Loved your laundry room!
An idea I had to create a neat and seamless counter space is to get a white desktop from IKea
it comes in different leghgths and width to put on top of the washes. that would make it look perfect.
thank you for sharing your beautiful, house.I love your blog and bought your book! 🙂

Hi Becky! Great ideas for laundry room! The buckets with the rope handles are adorable. I checked The Container Store website and don’t see them, or even anything similar. Do you have a brand name, or any idea where I can find them? thanks!
