Messy Monday #26 – Zoo
This week’s theme is the zoo and we’ll be making some fun animal masks, coloring some animal coloring pages and writing animal names. To make some animals in “cages”, we’ll draw animals, cut out thin strips of paper and glue the strips over the animals vertically to make it look like they’re in cages. We’ll also be making and decorating zoo dioramas and our Schleich zoo animals.
Here are some resources that we’re using for inspiration:
Switcheroo Zoo – super fun site where you can learn fun facts about animals create your own “zoo animals” – here’s a Turkey/Cheetah/Elephant
Today is the last week of the summer themes for Messy Monday (of course my camera isn’t cooperating with me this as I am posting this) – should I continue the themes? Has it been helpful for you?

The art teacher at my school did animals in cages, possibly circus train cages, this year. I think they did crayon resist with watercolor to make the animals and then cut the animal pictures into strips and glued them on a larger piece of black paper to make the bars. Then I think they were glued onto another larger piece of colored paper to make a frame.
I love her animal based projects. It is always so neat to see kids’ different interpretations of animals.
