Scent your Home Naturally : Diffuser Blends
Artificial fragrances are harmful and can be toxic – diffusing essential oils are a great way to safely scent your home. There are oodles of ideas out there for ways to diffuse essential oils that have healing properties, but not a lot of ideas for just good smelling combinations. So if you like a homey, fresh-smelling home and are looking for a safe and natural way to do that, you’ll love these combinations. And if you’ve purchased essential oils and haven’t been using them or are only using them for cleaning, break out your diffuser or put a couple drops in a few cups of water and simmer gently on the stove.
If you’ve ever made a DIY cleaner, chances are you’ve added an essential oil or two to the mix. I primarily use essential oils for cleaning and diffusing but there are oodles of other uses for them as well – but today we’re just talking about SCENT. If you’re looking to branch out past lemon essential oil and customize the scent for your diffuser or cleaners, I have some favorite scent combinations for you. Don’t be afraid to experiment and see what you come up with.
White Fir + Lime – I love this woodsy and fresh combination. It’s a great wintery and clean scent.
Grapefruit + Bergamot – I’ve been diffusing this the last couple weeks – I love the fresh and warm citrusy scent.
Cinnamon + Cardamon + Ginger – If you’re a candle addict, this spicy scent will be your new favorite!
Lemon + Clove – my absolute favorite scent combination and signature scent – it’s homey, warm and inviting.
Eucalyptus + Lavender – if you like the smell of a spa, this is probably the combination they’re diffusing.
Lemon + Lime + Orange – citrusy and fresh, the lime is the perfect component to this citrus combo.
Cedarwood + Sage – relaxing, woodsy and herbaceous, this combination is a favorite.
Isn’t this diffuser great? It works great and has a decor-ish look so it blends right in. What’s your favorite diffuser combination or blend?

Thank you for these lovely combinations!
Question: how many drops do I put in a 300ml diffuser?? I’m new to using essential oils, and I can’t smell the oils!
Thank you, and take care!

Post authorTry 5 and see if that gives a scent – double check what the manufacturer recommends too 🙂

This is such a timely article, Becky! My son and daughter-in-law gave me a beautiful wood finish diffuser for Christmas. I love it so much, I had to purchase this one you are showing as well. Actually, I just purchased two – one for me and one for my daughter. LOL
Thank you for the essential oil combos. I’ve just been using individual oils. Now I will venture into combinations.

Hi Becky! I’m so excited. My local grocery store was selling your book so I was able to pick up a copy. I’m trying to start my essential oil collection to use around the house and your book will help me decide which oils to buy. I want to use the oils to freshen up the house. I thought that a citrus scent would be inviting without being flowery. What is your advice?
Becky Says
Post authorI love citrus scents! Citrus, clove, tea tree, lavender, peppermint are all good ones to start with!

So what oils should I not use around my dog?????
Becky Says
Post authorDo some research – my vet uses some oils to treat animals but as far as using them in the home ‘around’ pets, the dilution is so high that I don’t worry about it. The ‘hot’ oils are the ones that you want to stay away from.

I have pretty high humidity in my home, I use a dehumidifier so the last thing I need is more humidity from a diffuser 🙁 I’ve been looking into the nebulising diffusers which don’t use water so I’m saving up for one as they are pricey! I will save these scent ideas for whenever I finally get one 🙂

Just curious, does this diffuser work well in a large open kitchen/living room space? I have ordered 2 others off of Amazon and they were definitely better in smaller spaces. Thoughts?
Thanks! 🙂

I am just beginning to put together most of the diy cleaners. I have the glass mason jars, and mixed the soft cleaning paste in that. For the Window & Mirror cleaning spray/All purpose spray/Bathroom disinfecting spray is it okay to use plastic spray bottles vs. glass bottles? Are there any of the diy cleaners that have to be stored in a glass container or spray bottle? Thanks so much.
Becky Says
Post authorIf you go through them quickly you can definitely store them in plastic – I use glass because it’s better with essential oils because the EOs can leach into plastic.

Thanks for this amazing information! I’m always looking for new oil combinations for my classroom. Kindergarteners will tell you exactly how ‘yucky’ something smells so I’ve found the floral and clean scents work best but I love learning new ones!

I’m waiting for your book to arrive! I’m excited! I love the EO reference card you posted. But what exact drop recipes do you like? I am one of those people that is afraid to experiment right away ???????? and need a hand to hold in the beginning. Thanks for all your help!!
Becky Says
Post authorI usually do 3- 5 drops total but it depends on your diffuser 🙂

This is great info! Thanks! Can I add drops of the oils to my laundry? If so, how many drops? Thanks!

I just got a bamboo diffuser and have been loving it. I don’t have a big selection of essential oils, only some basics, but so far I love lemon + lavender + tea tree. I love clove, though, so I’m going to try the lemon + clove! I usually find peppermint too strong, not matter how easy I go on the drops.
