The Perfect Autumn Essential Oil Blend
I love diffusing essential oils in the home to create a mood, offer an uplifting scent, or just to get my home to smell like something other than what I made for dinner the night before. I also use essential oils in my cleaners. My most used scent combination? Lemon + Clove. If you’ve been around here for any amount of time I hope you know that that is my favorite scent combination of all time. Why? It creates a warm and homey scent that I just love. Lemon brings that bright, clean, citrusy scent and clove adds the warmth that we all love in fall and winter. When the fall rolls around I add orange to the mix and it creates just the perfect autumn scent.
The perfect autumn scent?
LEMON
ORANGE
CLOVE
If you’re diffusing, use the recommended drops for your diffuser – I use equal parts of each essential oil but you can play with the ratio.
I’m loving this diffuser that you see pictured – it’s small but fills our first floor with whatever I’m diffusing. I love the twinkle light look and feel of its design. Here’s a larger one with the similar look and feel.
The rule of thumb for scenting DIY cleaners is 3-10 drops of essential oil per 16 ounces of liquid. Here are a couple recipes to get you started with – simply substitute this scent combo for the one in the recipe:
Nightly Kitchen Sink Scrub
Laminate Floor Cleaner
Fabric Sanitizer Spray
Non-Vinegar Hardwood Floor Cleaner
Vinegar Hardwood Floor Cleaner
Window + Mirror Cleaning Spray
Marble + Granite Cleaning Spray
All-Purpose Disinfecting Cleaner
All Purpose Spray
Laundry – soften + freshen
Look for organic Plant Therapy essential oils in the shop!
Always use caution around pets and children when using essential oils.

I thought you couldn’t use citrus essential oils in diffusers, as it would damage the parts. Is that not the case?

I just mopped the bathrooms floors today & I made your Citrus Tile Floor Cleaner & added 5 drops of grapefruit & 5 drops of clove. It was lovely. I don’t know what it is about essential oils but they make cleaning so much more enjoyable. Thank you for your ideas.

One of my favorite blends is clove, cinnamon, and orange. I’ll need to try the lemon and clove. Sounds wonderful.
