8 DIY Cleaners that Will Change How You Clean Your Home
I love DIY’ing my own cleaners for so many reasons: it’s LESS expensive, you can mix up a batch when you run out, you know exactly what you are cleaning with, and I love knowing that I am mixing up a non-toxic alternative to clean our home. This post comes at the perfect time – Spring Cleaning Month!
As you are prepping your home for Spring Cleaning, consider swapping a cleaner or two for something you make yourself. I bet you have most of these ingredients at home. Keep reading for a video that shows exactly how I make these 8 DIY Cleaners in minutes.
Here are the ingredients I use for the 8 DIY CLEANERS in this video (and most DIY cleaners I make):
filtered tap water (you can use distilled water too)
baking soda
white vinegar
castile and/or dish soap
hydrogen peroxide
vodka
essential oils
rubbing alcohol
This post shares more details about these ingredients, why I use them, and how I store them.
I made you a video that shows how I DIY 8 safe and natural cleaners, including two that I use for disinfecting. Check it out – the recipes in the video are listed below in case you need them along with a free printable too!

Since rubbing alcohol is sold out everywhere, what do you suggest as a substitute? Vodka instead? Or Everclear?
Clean Mama Says
Post authorEither vodka that’s 60% alcohol above or ever clear will work!

I think you are amazing! I am inspired by you daily. I am not a super hero like you, but I have taken parts of things from you blog or decluttering or cleaning. One load of laundry a day (every other day), sink scrub, toilet bombs, spending 20 minutes daily not taking on the whole beast when decluttering. You have inspired me greatly!!!!!
Blessed.

I am so happy to have stumbled across your wonderful website! Just joined your Homekeeping Society.
I have 2 questions. Some of the recipes here are slightly different than the recipe printable. Which version is your fav? Also, what do you suggest for quartz countertops?
Clean Mama Says
Post authorWelcome Lauren! The recipe printable might be slightly different – either one works! Use the Stone Cleaning Spray for quartz 🙂

The glass cleaning and all-purpose disinfecting spray recipes are my favorite. Amazed how a disinfectant mixture can be made without any bleach compound. It’s great knowing this.
Glad to have found your blog. Thanks for the printables! Bookmarked anyhow!

Hey there! I recently found your blog and you make cleaning less overwhelming so thank you!! I wanted to make my own cleaners with your recipes. This might be a silly question but with the spray cleaners- after you spray on the counter can you just wipe off or do you need to rinse?
Clean Mama Says
Post authorNo need to rinse, just wipe! Welcome 🙂

I had made a diy soap scum remover from a recipe on your site but I am not able to locate that recipe any longer. It was with vinegar and peppermint essential oil. I’ve used it up and want to mix another batch. Could you give me the recipe? Thanks!
Clean Mama Says
Post authorHi Mary, You’ll find the recipe under solution 2 over at this post. Hope this helps! https://cleanmama.com/naturally-get-rid-soap-scum/

Love these recipes!!! One question-Can you sub apple cider vinegar for white vinegar?
Clean Mama Says
Post authorThanks Sarah! Apple Cider vinegar isn’t a good sub for white vinegar because of the sugar content.

How long are the cleaners good for once you mix them up? Is there a shelf life? Thanks!
Clean Mama Says
Post authorAbout 2-4 weeks 🙂

How long do these cleaners last once you make them? Don’t they grow microbes after a few days?
Clean Mama Says
Post authorThe ingredients have natural germ killers in them and if you use filtered or distilled water, they’ll last at least 2-4 weeks.

I can’t get Everclear 95% where I live. I do have an orange vodka at 40% alcohol on hand. Can I use that or should I buy a non-infused vodka? Thank you.
Clean Mama Says
Post authorI’d use a non-infused vodka 🙂

Alot of store bought cleaners have some sort of scent therefore I can’t use them due to my asthma. Do the DIY cleaners still work just as good if you leave out the essential oils?
Clean Mama Says
Post authorThey sure do!

Hi there! Happy I found your site. Do you use the bathroom scrub on the toilets too? Or is there a different recipe for that?
Clean Mama Says
